I yanked the main image from Calvin and Hobbes (sorry, Watterson) and shabanged it for a potential t-shirt for MS’s adventure race crew – the P-terror-dactyls. They’ve been prepping for this adventure race basically all year – it’s pretty intense. It sounds like the equivalent of being chased through the woods by a madman with a knife rusted with blood, except you’re timed.
I went to an Of Montreal show for the first time on Monday. It was amazing!! The opening bands were even entertaining. The first band was called MGMT, and they were very tailored towards my tastes: high harmonic vocals, screetching and haunting guitar build-ups, unique melodic lines… oh man. I was happy as a kitten in mittens.
Next band was called Grand Buffet. They were very odd – a duo consisting of an urbanized Penn look-alike and a lanky flamboyant leprechaun. Their songs were rap-based and revolved around high-profile themes such as learning to read and building tree houses. Definitely added some variety to the show.
Of Montreal took forever to come on, but it was worth it. There weren’t as many costume changes / eccentric goings-on that I anticipated, but it was still a great theatric presentation none the less. Most of the songs were from Sunlandic and Hissing Fauna, which was fine by me. Kevin Barnes is so great – to get a bit inside his head, read this interview.
